At Eastport Dental in Mesa, Arizona it’s our goal to provide everyone with a way to get the exceptional dental care that they need and want. In an effort to do so we have implemented a new patient special to get you started on the path to better oral health. Our offer includes digital dental x-rays, an oral exam, and a professional teeth cleaning for just $49.99. This is a fraction of the original cost! Here’s what you can expect during your first visit with us.
Digital X-Rays
Dental x-rays show us the internal structure of your mouth including your jaw bone, tooth roots, and their nerve tissue, making them extremely useful for correctly diagnosing dental conditions that can’t be seen with the naked eye.
A traditional x-ray is a film that needs to be chemically developed, which takes time and results in a poorer quality image. With our digital x-rays, your images appear instantly on our computer screen and are of the highest quality available.
There are four varieties of x-rays that we use regularly, which include:
Bitewing X-Rays – Bitewing x-rays reveal what’s going on between your teeth, which is something that we can’t see just by looking in your mouth. These images are very effective at diagnosing decay that’s caused by a lack of flossing.
Periapical Films – A single periapical film (PA) shows anywhere from one to three teeth and they reveal the entire body of the teeth, as well as the pulp, nerve canals, roots, and the jaw bone. PAs allow us to diagnose abscessed teeth and determine things like if a tooth is able to be extracted in our office or if you need to be referred to an oral surgeon. We can also see how much calculus buildup is underneath the gums and if your gum disease has caused bone loss. If so, we use the level of bone to decide if your condition can be treated or if you need to have teeth removed.
A Panorex – A panorex x-ray is a 2-dimensional image that reveals everything from the nose to the chin area in a single picture. This radiograph is often used in children to see if their permanent teeth are developing properly. A panorex is also useful when looking at wisdom teeth, which are often hard to x-ray using other methods. In addition, these images will reveal tumors, cysts, sinus infections, and bone fractures.
Dental Cat-Scan – A dental cat-scan is similar to a panorex but the 3-D image allows us to see so much more. Cat-scans are extremely useful when evaluating for dental implants by allowing us to measure the amount of space there is in the jaw bone and determining the density of it.
During your implant procedure, our dentist will use the cat-scan as a guide to help position the implant properly. This image is also useful during root canal therapy and extractions because we can see angles of nerves and roots that we otherwise wouldn’t be able to. As a result, root canal treatments are more successful, and tooth extractions are less invasive.
Oral Exam
Our family dentist in Mesa will perform a thorough examination of your mouth. He’ll check for any abnormalities including decay, cracks, breaks, gum recession, worn teeth, and suspicious-looking areas that could be oral cancer. We’ll also examine your jaw to determine if you have TMJ disorder, then we’ll inspect your x-rays and look for decay, abscesses, or anything else that’s abnormal.
If we see something that requires treatment, we’ll discuss these issues with you and go over the cost of the treatment.
Tooth Cleaning
Our hygienist will thoroughly clean your teeth by removing all plaque and tartar buildup. We’ll also floss your teeth, and then polish them.
If you have gum disease you may need a special cleaning known as scaling and root planing. If so, this is something that we may need to do at another time. We’ll discuss specifically what your needs are and how we need to go about getting you the proper treatment.
